It is a carminative, helping to relieve distension of the gastrointestinal system caused by gas, and can be of assistance in cases of flatulent dyspepsia. Due to its astringent and antibacterial properties Sage can be used as a mouth wash for inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat.
