Features and benefits
A herbal bitters tonic that may be added to water, juice or herbal tea
How it works
Digestive Bitters stimulate the bitter taste receptors on the tongue, promoting a reflex secretion of gastrin in the stomach. They are thus indicated for a wide variety of digestive conditions including liver and biliary disorders (for example intolerance of greasy foods and alcohol, excessive cholesterol production), poor appetite, indigestion and heartburn, and food intolerances. Additionally, they are often prescribed for other conditions which, from a traditional naturopathic perspective, are associated with digestive imbalance.
Dandelion root is a bitter herb indicated for symptoms of sluggish liver function. Meadowsweet is traditionally used for heartburn and conditions of disordered gastric acid secretion. Gentian root is a bitter herb that stimulates the appetite and digestion by promoting the production of saliva, gastric juices and bile. Agrimony is an astringent herb to assist digestion and tonify the bowel wall. Cinnamon bark is useful to relieve griping pains, intestinal colic and flatulence.
